  SUMMER LAW CAMP UCLA
Blogging Day One of 7. SUNDAY: THE ARRIVAL
This amazing adventure began when we arrived at 2 o'clock on UCLA campus for the residential Summer Law Camp. It is co-sponsored by UCLA School of Law, the Constitutional Rights Foundation and the California Bar Association.

I was assigned one room key-card to room 213 in Hendrick Hall. There is very high security. The electronic card-key is used to open the main doors in the building, as well as to our room, as well as to pay for food in the cafeteria. There is a nice pool right next to our building! In the room there were 3 bunk beds and 3 desks that we were provided with to use at our own leisure. I brought six suitcases up to my room. This was a little challenge as the closet for all three girls was only 2' wide. Fortunately, the night before I had repacked so I could leave the seventh suitcase behind.

In the elevator on the way up two girls told me this was their second time at this camp! They were excited that there would be a Bailiff at this Mock Trial. I had already read the 60 page manual they had sent to us two weeks ahead of time, so I was prepared! The two big issues will be the First and Fourteenth Amendments.

All 50 of us met in a small conference room for our first ice breaker.
For our first icebreaker we played chatterbox in which we stood in two circles around each other and we were given various topics to discuss such as; favorite TV show, discuss your hometown, favorite kind of music. We then played a trust activity where we were given a partner and a blindfold and we were told to direct our partner around the campus blindfolded and down stairs. It was a really fun activity and really broke the ice!

We then had dinner in the cafeteria and there was a very wide selection of food to choose from. From Burritos, to soups to deserts the cafeteria had plenty to choose from. I had pizza, a salad and an ice cream!

We then went back to our conference room and discussed our schedule for the week. After the discussion was over, we were divided up into groups of about 15 and we were randomly assigned parts to play to reenact the People v. Stover case. I played the part of witness "Zoey" who was a security guard when the incident took place. Tomorrow my group and I will perform our skit reenactment for the other people in order to get a better understanding of what happened. We finished at 10:30 pm and went back to our rooms. There were eight girls in our room, all doing each other's hair until lights out.

During the day we were discouraged from using our cell phones, so I waited until 11 pm to call my Mother and asked her to bring over two pairs of jeans and a white summer dress that I had left behind in my 7th suitcase.

Overall, I had an amazing day and can't wait to wake up tomorrow to spend the day learning about law and having fun with my new friends!
